Christopher Hughes was born in a small town on the Missouri River. Shortly thereafter he graduated first in his class, became a rocket scientist, and after giving up on sleep, took up fiction writing.

He has sold books, edited an art and literary magazine, created a small-town free-speech scandal, worked in radio, published a story, interned at NASA, designed advanced defence hardware (that may be prototyped in another 20 years depending on the progress of superconducting materials,) has a patent pending and has over 50 different hydraulic valve designs controlling over three hundred thousand backhoes, excavators, motorgraders, wheel-loaders, fork-lifts and skidsteer-loaders around the globe. He is currently pulling his hair out over the Titanic-like production launch of his latest design.

He has worked and lived (not necessarily in that order) in St. Joseph, Missouri; Huntsville, Alabama; Washington D.C.; New York City; Hamburg, Germany; Cheshire, England; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He has traveled in 46 of 48 continental US states and in over 18 European countries.

His goal to live to see $99 fares to Mars is currently conflicting with his other goal to finish life like an old pickup: dirty, broken and completely used up.
