Alan has
a passion for S.P.R.E.A.D.ng Creative Thinking wherever he can around the
world. He has traveled and worked in 73 countries and 49 states. His first
3-month trip was in 1977 around Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Since
then he has lived in Italy for 3 months, traveled to South Africa and Turkey
annually for Creativity conferences and several in the US. In 2001 he
planned and took his first World Creativity Tour (speaking and researching)
completely around the world (16 countries in 73 days). In 2003 he planned
and took his second WCT (24 countries in 85 days) plus traveled around the
world 2 other times, 2nd 7 countries in 25 days and 3rd 3 countries in 9
days. As of 2007 he has traveled in 73 countries, speaking and researching
in most of them.
Since 1960 he has worked in 8 creative fields (47 jobs in 47 years ranging from 1 day to 20+ years): television news, architecture, interiors, graphics and signage design, cartooning, freelance writing, college design professor, speaker and consultant. In 1976 he began his journey to become a creative thinking consultant by taking a M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling of Gifted, Talented and Creative Individuals and then moved to Athens, Georgia, to do his Ph.D. in the Teaching of Creative Thinking with world-renown creativity expert, E. Paul Torrance. Through keynotes, workshops, seminars, retreats/advances, the internet and writing he continually strives to help people expand and enrich their creative thinking abilities and tools. Since the 1970s he has published over 350 articles and 17 books on creativity, leadership and teamwork in magazines, newspapers, newsletters and professional journals. He has contributed articles and training exercises to over 20 books. Alan has been an annual leader with the Creative Education Foundation since 1978 and is a Life Member. In 2006 he was awarded the Distinguished Leader Award chosen by a vote of the total leadership. He is the Director of International Relations for the American Creativity Association. Plus he has been a long time member of the National Storytellers Network, the Southern Order of Storytellers, and has earned the highest speaking award, Certified Speaking Professional (CSP), from both the National Speakers Association and the International Federation of Professional Speakers Association. Added to all this virtual "walking on water," "jumping over buildings in a single bound," "flying faster than a speeding bullet," he is a happy grandfather of creative Tyler Beasley, creative Jay Parker and father of Jessica a creative marketing manager and Scott a creative professional tennis coach and Alan loves to travel, write, hike, garden, and read.
