A mid-century baby, I arrived in this world at a time when it was
simultaneously emerging into the nuclear age and modern living. Born in
Chicago, I discovered early on the joy of color - I couldn't stop myself
from two-fisted drawing all over the walls of my room ultimately clutching
every crayola in the box. How I loved those flip-top tiered boxes. A
beautiful mess it was.
From there I moved on to interior decoration of all of my desks in primary school. By junior high I had graduated to markers, which embellished every possible piece of paper, and to this day I find it difficult not to scribble. After studying to be a teacher, I found that imposing discipline was counterintuitive; I sought the simple joy of learning. So I went into producing radio in the early '70s, working on syndicated programming and ads with the comedy duo, Dick & Bert. Dick Orkin was the unmistakable voice of Chickenman, The Wonderful Weekend White-Winged Warrior. It was a spoof of Batman. When D+B moved to L.A., I relocated to France for 4 years of travel and work and play, including a trip to the USSR to visit refuseniks. Returning stateside in the early '80s, I began working in public affairs, focusing on affordable housing, domestic violence prevention, community development, public and reproductive health, arts & culture and more. I've been doing creative consulting now for nigh on 20+ years and love it. Goal for work: "I can't believe I'm getting paid to do this." There you have it. |
